Gayle: Was loving Northern Croatia, until we met hills, hills and more hills. Must have walked up and down 50 hills and they were steep! Stated at 27km but we are all sure it was over 30k . Only 4 of us walking today, Matt at Hospital last night with infected foot (blister) and 2 girls decided not to walk! Temperature was on our side and we didn’t get lost (we’ll sort of) we tried to track down every arrow until Nano decided to lead us into a short cut!
Not sure if it was a short cut but eventually made to our suprise accommodation around 4.30pm. We are staying in an old past century “poklek” house! Beautiful home cooked meal and even live entertainment from or host who plays the saxophone.
Very impressed with the hospitality given to us in Croatia and sad that we are leaving Croatia tomorrow, don’t feel we have had enought time here.
Greg: So tired right now. So this will be short. A very long day – 30 kms plus over 8 hours! Beautiful heritage protected home in northern Croatia. Great local meal and wine. My feet still good but so ready for bed and it is only 7.30 pm!! A great day walking in beautiful weather in rolling hills/ some very steep! Enjoyable but very tiring. Off to bed another big one tomorrow.
Directions: Leave BarRock and turn right for 50ms. Then a left for 70ms out onto main road, by the big caveman statue. You cross over main road and railway and go towards the museum. You will see a left that goes uphill for 700ms. You arrive at Xroads in Tkalci village. ( you can see a restaurant 30ms to your right). At this X-raods you go straight across and 30ms later you arrive at a crucifix, you go left for 20ms and then you see a small road to the left going downhill. Take this road downhill. 500ms later you pass under a motorway and you aim for 1’o clock. You walk uphill for 40ms and you will see a left turn on a dusty road ( beside a derelict house). This road goes for about 1kms until it arrives at asphalt. Here you turn right! 1km later you will see a smaller asphalt road to the left, take it. It brings you uphill and after a bridge and 700ms you turn right. This brings you to Mala Pačetina and 1km in total, the road ends. You look for a right turn at end of road that will take you (500ms) into Štuparje.
In Štuparje you go left for 800ms and arrive at a 3 fork. You take the center fork! After 500ms you will pass a bridge and then 800ms later you arrive at a T, go left for 200ms and then a right, crossing over the main road. 150ms later your little road bends left and 500ms later you turn right. You will see a path into woods, off you go. 400ms later you are back on a road, go left. 700ms later at V, you keep right and the road curves around for 1kms until you hit a T and then turn left. This area is called Cigrovec. 800ms later you take a right and go straight for 400ms
There is a right into woods here and 200ms later you exit woods and continue for 400ms , then turn right, then another left after 400ms. Follow the road for 2kms (don’t deviate) and you arrive at “center” of Gorjakovo ( all 5 houses of it) and it is a sharp right for 200ms. At the big road, turn right for 600ms. There is a left that goes through the forest for 300 m, another 80ms through the meadow and you meet a bunch of 8 small trees, you turn right 30 ms and left for another 170ms and arrive out on the asphalt. After about 50 m is Marinec ulica (S) and there is a path to your left that leads through the woods for 500m, you come to a corner, on the right side of the forest, meadow on the left, go straight 120m and you’re bearing right towards a single house. You go straight another 250 m and go out on the road, keep on straight on the asphalt.
After 700ms you arrive in Donji Zbilj (S), and you go for another 300ms. You see a small left, take it. The road goes through the vineyard 150m and continues through the forest about 200m. Get out on the gravel road and turn right on this road. Walk for 250ms and turn off right into forest. 450 m, you exit woods. Do not go to the house to the right, but continue the same path next to the forest for another 300m, then turn right and pass by 4 houses. 400ms later you go through a jagged-Xroads and 1.2kms later you arrive at big road and a bus stop, turn right and then 200ms later a left in Jelenak village. 50ms after the little bridge, take a right and then 400ms later a left. 2.5kms later (don’t deviate) you arrive at a T and Zagorska Sela is to the left. Aljosa’s house is 3kms downhill from here. Music, food and drinks……. in without doubt, THE coolest house! Wait & see.
